General aspect of the Golden Retriever : harmonious dog, balanced, active, powerful, yet united in its manners, of robust constitution, the gentle expression. Features: docile, intelligent and possessing natural working. Temperament: sweet, friendly and confident. Head and Skull: head Balanced and well chiselled. Skull broad without coarseness. Beautiful places of the head with the neck. Muzzle powerful, wide and high. The length of muzzle is approximately equal to that of the skull, well-defined stop to occiput. The nose is black preference. Eyes: dark brown, set well apart. Eye rims are dark. Ears: medium and attached nearly at eye level. Jaws: jaws are strong with a perfect scissor bite, regular and complete, that is to say that the upper incisors overlap the lower ones in close contact and are set square to the jaws. Neck: good length, clean and muscular. Forehand: forelegs are straight and have good bone. Shoulders well laid. Scapula and long arms of equal length than the front, elbow to the ground, are well under the body. Elbows close to body. Body: well balanced. Loin short. Chest well let down between forelegs. Ribs well let down and well sprung. Topline. Hindquarters: the kidney and the hind legs are strong and muscular. The legs are strong and stifles are well bent. The hocks are well let down. The Metatarsus, seen from behind, are upright. Hocks turn neither in nor out. Cow hocks highly undesirable. Feet: round, cat feet. Tail: scope and attached to the back. It reaches the hock. It does not curl at the end. Body - Movement: gaits energetic, with great momentum. The forelegs and hind legs move in a plane parallel to the axis of the body. Stride long and free with no tendency to raise earlier. Hair: the hair is flat or wavy with good feathering. The undercoat is dense and waterproof. Color: Any shade of gold or cream. Should be neither red nor mahogany. It acknowledges the presence of a few white hairs on chest only. Size: height at withers: males, 56 to 61 cm, females, 51 to 56 cm. Defects: any deviation from the above should be considered a failure to be in exact proportion to its severity. NB: Golden Retriever males should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum. |
